These are two images that I shot this morning at the Burnaby Mountain Conservation Area. The first is of a singer/activist leading a group through inspiration and song. The second image is of a Jack O' Lantern carved with an appropriate phrase that many residents of Burnaby and the Lower Mainland agree with. I liked these elements of this morning's events because they show a little of the creativity that should and does accompany rallies and protests. They are also the type of imagery that mainstream media may overlook in an attempt to highlight conflict. There were times of great stress this morning between Kinder Morgan contractors and some protestors. But there was also a celebration of democratic and peaceful protest using the theme of picnics versus pipelines. Thank you to the organizers of the rally today and to the Burnaby RCMP who did an outstanding job maintaining the peace.
